St. Jude Shrine's  foundation  was laid  by Rev. Fr. Christudas in 1972. With the  aid of  Mr.Varghese,"Managing Director, Orient Group, Trivandrum", the first building  was constructed  and  the  pilgrim  shrine  began  functioning  from July 1972. There were  Sunday masses and also  Thursday Novenas  to  the devotion of St. Jude Thaddeus.

Fr. Mohan. C. Leon ( 1973 - 75  and  1979 - 94 ) followed  Fr. Christudas  as the Parish Priest. He  contributed  a  lot  to  the  upliftment  of  the church. The first annual feast of the church  was celebrated  in  July 1973 and Sunday Catechism classes was also started  during his period. With the help of  the sisters of  Holy Angels  Convent, Trivandrum, a primary school was started in 1986. The school named after St. Jude has classes  from  LKG to  4th standard  &  is  functioning very successfully till date.

The other priests who have served in St.Jude Pilgrim Shrine as the parish  priests  include  Fr. George Paul  ( 1975 - 77 ), Rev. Fr. Susaipakkiam ( 1977 - 79 ), the present Archbishop of Trivandrum  Archdiocese, Fr. Raymond  Joy ( 1994 - 97 ). Fr. Raymond  Joy's  contribution  to  the church  include, the  formation  of  K C Y M ( Kerala Catholic Youth Movement ) unit, the Church Choir, B C C ( Basic Christian Community ) units etc. His sudden  demise  in  1997 was a rude shock and   a great loss to the people of the parish.

Fr. Benny  Joseph  was  followed  Fr. Raymond  Joy  and he was  the  parish  priest  for  a  short  while.  Rev. Fr. Baskar Joseph  who was the Procurator and  Director of Institutions in the Trivandrum Diocese took  additional  charge of  St. Jude Shrine in 1997.

 
         

A grotto of the Virgin Mary was constructed in January 2000.

 


In the Jubilee year 2000, this church was declared officially as one of the  pilgrim centres of Trivandrum diocese. From  the  month of  September in year 2000, day long  Eucharistic Adoration  was commenced on Thursdays attracting  large number of  pilgrims  throughout  the day.  In November 2000, a  religious articles stall started functioning, selling religious articles for the pilgrims.

 

On every Thursday, thousands of devotees throng the pilgrim shrine for the Adoration, Novena and Holy Mass. Today, the liturgy on  Thurdays start by 5:30 am and continue upto  10:30 pm. A  major  renovation of the shrine was started in 2004.

Fr.Jose took over as parish priest from May 2005. The renovated shrine and the remodelled altar were blessed by the ArchBishop of Trivandrum, Dr. M. Susaipakkiam on 26th October 2006.






The newly constituted Parish Council took over the office from 1st January 2007. Teams were constituted for the active functioning of Pastoral, Educational and Social Services.

St.Jude Shrine was erected as a fullfledged Parish in the Archdiocese of Trivandrum on March 19, 2008.

Fr.Gladin Alex took the charge as Parish Priest and the Rector of St. Jude Shrine from May 2008.
